Global transcription of the ICP27 arginine-to-lysine viral mutants is decreased. HeLa cells were infected with wild-type HSV-1 KOS or the indicated ICP27 arginine-to-lysine viral mutants. At 6 h after infection, total poly(A⁺) RNA was purified and microarray analysis was performed against an array of HSV-1 transcript-specific probes as described previously (12, 15). Each experiment was performed three times, and hybridizations were performed in duplicate for each experiment. Average values for each transcript are plotted, and error bars represent the standard errors of the means.
