Culture morphology. IOSE-29 (A, C, E, and G) and IOSE-29EC (B, D, F, and H) cells were maintained in two-dimensional monolayer culture at low cell density (A and B), two-dimensional monolayer culture at high cell density (C and D), in three-dimensional sponge culture (E and F), and in three-dimensional culture in Matrigel (G and H). All cultures were photographed live under phase microscopy except E and F, which were fixed, sectioned, stained with hematoxylin and eosin, and photographed under bright field. (Bar = 100 μm.)
