Enzyme activity of Bmr6 and SbCAD4 for different cinnamyl substrates. CAD activity was determined for SbCAD4 (black bars) and Bmr6 (gray bars) using NADP+ as the cofactor and coumaryl, coniferyl, caffeoyl, or sinapyl alcohol as the substrate. Alternatively, CAD activity was determined using NADPH as the cofactor and coniferyl or sinapyl aldehyde as the substrate. The activity is normalized to the amount of protein.
