Induction of adipocyte differentiation by DMI initially results in cell growth and clonal expansion that requires HMGA2 expression. Further stimulation of these cells by insulin results in a let-7-dependent decrease in HMGA2 expression, which in turn leads to growth arrest and terminal differentiation.
