Table 2.
Rate of change per standard deviation (SD) in insulin resistance in PCOS, as measured by HOMA-IR, in order of importance
| Variable | Standard rate of change per SD | % change per SD |
|---|---|---|
| BMI | 0.122 | +33% |
| WHR | 0.104 | +27% |
| Age | −0.046 | −10% |
| log DHEAS | −0.042 | −9% |
| log FT | 0.038 | +9% |
| log SHBG | −0.035 | −8% |
| log HP | −0.024 | −5% |
HOMA-IR is the homeostasis model assessment to estimate insulin resistance, BMI is body mass index, WHR is waist to hip ratio, FT is free testosterone, SHBG is sex hormone-binding globulin, and HP is 17-hydroxyprogesterone. For example, with a BMI increase of one standard deviation, the insulin resistance, as measured by HOMA-IR, increases by 33%.
