Histological sections from patients with myocarditis. A Viral myocarditis. A predominantly lymphocyte infiltrate is seen between the myofibrils. The myocyte (M) has irregular contours suggesting an active myocarditis. Macrophages (arrowheads) are also seen among the inflammatory infiltrate (hematoxylin and eosin stain, original magnification ×40). B Eosinophilic myocarditis. A heavy infiltrate of inflammatory cells, predominately eosinophils (arrowheads) with macrophages and some mononuclear cells.
