Enzymatic degradation of silk fibroin hydrogels. Hydrogels at 4, 8, and 12% (w/v) were prepared by sonication and immersed in either PBS, pH 7.4 (control) or protease XIV in PBS (5 U/mL) for 7 days. Mass remaining was determined by comparing the wet weight of gel plugs at each time point with original wet weight. Values are average ± standard derivation of a minimum of N=4 samples.
