The maximum aerobic capacity is a powerful predictor of all-cause mortality in men (drawn from data contained in Myers et al 2002). The figure shows percentage survival as a function of the aerobic capacity (VO2max expressed in METs). Survival is worse in subjects with lower aerobic capacity.
