Cholesterol-starved BHK cells were prelabeled with [¹⁴C]cholesterol overnight, pulsed with [³H]acetate for 15 min at 37°C, and chased for 2 h at 37°C (a) or 15°C (b). After the chase the cells were treated as in Fig. 5. The percentage of [³H]cholesterol and [¹⁴C]cholesterol in each fraction is indicated.
