The wild type was grown in CGXII medium containing 50 mM glucose, 50 mM sodium citrate, and 5 mM CaCl₂. Cells were precultivated in CGXII minimal medium with 50 mM glucose and 50 mM citrate. The consumption of citrate (▴) and glucose (•) was determined via HPLC as described in Materials and Methods. The curves shown here are representative of those from three independent growth experiments with comparable results.
