(A) 19F NMR chemical shifts of the meta- and para- F atoms in KSI-bound 3,4,5-trifluorophenolate (KSI•RO−) are nearly identical to those of the free phenolate (RO-) in solution at pH 12 (from ref. 55). (B) 19F NMR chemical shifts of the ortho-F atoms in KSI-bound 3-methyl-2,6-difluorophenolate are perturbed downfield from their values when free in solution.
