Microscopic macula. The retina is markedly atrophic characterized by generalized loss of photoreceptors and thinning of the outer plexiform layer except the temporal maculae from fovea to equator of the right eye (A, nasal; B, temporal), but worse in the left eye, even at the maculae (C, nasal; D, temporal).
