Elevated levels of MMP-9 in skeletal muscle of mdx mice. (A) Diaphragm from control and mdx mice was analyzed for the expression of MMP-9 by QRT-PCR. The fold increase in MMP-9 mRNA levels in diaphragm of mdx mice (n = 3, each point) compared with age-matched control (n = 4) is presented here. *P < 0.01, values significantly different from age-matched control mice. (B) Levels of MMP-9 protein measured in diaphragm of control and mdx mice at different stages of development suggest deregulation of MMP-9 activity in mdx mice.
