Figure 2

Neighbor-joining (NJ) phylogenetic tree. Neighbor-joining (NJ) phylogenetic tree generated from an alignment of all predicted red jungle fowl (Gallus gallus) putatively functional OR nucleotide sequences (n = 78) as described in reference [7]. Positions of seven sequences corresponding to the partial avian OR cDNA sequences used as probes in the Southern blotting probes are indicated: TinA-D and GalA-C. Probes Gal-C and Tin-D are clearly placed within the γ-c OR clade while probes Gal-A, B and Tin-A, B, C are placed within the non-γ-c OR clade. Bootstrap values > 80% are indicated. The scale-bar indicates the number of nucleic acid substitutions per site. Abbreviations: Tin, elegant-crested tinamou, Gal, galah; Gg, Gallus gallus; OR, olfactory receptor.
