Co-registered PET and MRI sections through the mesiotemporal cortex and midbrain. This region included areas of high 5HT1AR density (hippocampus) along with areas of moderate density (amygdala, periamygdaloid cortex). By including amygdala (Am) and hippocampus (Hi) together, errors in distinguishing these two structures are avoided. The raphe (Ra) ROI was defined on the PET, but in the co-registered MRI it is evident that this circular ROI overlies the midbrain area where the dorsal and median raphe nuclei are known to be situated.
