High CSF-1 concentration overcomes TGF-β effect on osteoclast survival. Mature osteoclasts were cultured on glass or collagen-coated coverslips overnight, and then treated with or without 2 ng/ml TGF- β for 48 hr in the presence of 10 ng/ml CSF-1 (A) or 100 ng/ml CSF-1 (B). DAPI stained nuclei were counted from six different random fields at 40x magnification. Mean results of three experiments are shown. (* p< 0.05, TGF- β vs. control)
