Vitamin C and ANF attenuate E2-associated increases in 8-isoPGF. Female ACI rats were treated with cholesterol, cholesterol + vitamin C, cholesterol + ANF, E2, E2 + vitamin C or E2 + ANF as described in the Materials and Methods section. 8-isoPGF levels were measured in mammary tissue from animals in each of these groups. 8-isoPGF levels were assessed in mammary tumor tissue as well. Fold changes were calculated for E2-treated animals relative to age-matched cholesterol-treated controls. Fold changes were calculated for E2 + vitamin C-treated animals relative to age-matched vitamin C-treated controls. Fold changes were calculated for E2 + ANF-treated animals relative to age-matched ANF-treated controls. Fold change data for tumor tissue were determined by comparing 8-isoPGF levels in tumor tissue with levels detected in non-tumor mammary tissue from age-matched control rats. These data are reported as an average of values obtained for at least seven different animals ± standard error. The symbol ‘*’ indicates a P value <0.05 relative to each group's respective controls. The symbol ‘‡’ indicates a P value <0.05 comparing E2 and E2 + vitamin C groups or E2 and E2 + ANF groups.
