Reaction mixtures contained radiolabeled lipid II and PBP2 in the absence (white bars) and presence (gray bars) of 1.25 mM CaCl₂. Peptides (40 μM) are added at a 2:1 molar ratio (peptide/lipid II). Mean values of three independent experiments are shown. *, inhibition was complete, and all lipid II was found at the application spot. (B) Complex formation of lantibiotics with radiolabeled lipid II. Reaction mixtures (described above) were analyzed by TLC.
