Graph representing Glyc IE/NAA IE over time. Shown are the mean values ± SEM for each group of rats (black squares: control rats, white square: rats maintained awake for 5 h). The ratio of brain Glyc IE over NAA IE is significantly increased (P<0.05) in the brain of the rats maintained awake for 5 h as compared to the corresponding control group (5 h labeled) of rats. Equation 4 is fitted to the data obtained from each individual control - undisturbed - rats. This plot enables to calculate a τ of 5.3 h with a fit error of 3.2 h and 15.6 h with a fit error of 6.5 h for Glyc and NAA, respectively.
