Effects of DMTU on renal function during cisplatin treatment in vivo. C57BL/6 mice (male, 8–10 weeks old) were divided into three groups. The cisplatin group was treated with a single dose of cisplatin (i.p., 30 mg/kg) for 3 days. The cisplatin + DMTU group was given 100 mg/kg DMTU 30 min prior to cisplatin injection, and then DMTU was given daily post-cisplatin injection. The control group was injected with vehicle solution. (A) Serum creatinine. (B) Blood urea nitrogen. Blood samples were collected to obtain serum for the measurement of creatinine and BUN, as described in Section 2. Data are expressed as mean ± S.D. (n = 5). *Statistically significantly different from the control group; #significantly different from the cisplatin-only group. The results show renoprotective effects of DMTU against cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity.
