Individual eFLCs were tested for both α and β^H1 globin gene expression. α-globin gene expression was detectable in all cells; β^H1 was detectable in most (11/15) eFLCs that had been treated with ins/EPO and SCFAs, but not (0/15) in eFLCs treated only with ins/EPO (P < .005). Mean cycle threshold (Ct) for α- and β^H1-globin gene analysis of cDNA real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) are also shown.
