The maps of twist angles shown in B and D are the results of control experiments performed using anti-rabbit IgG. For C and D, the antibody was rinsed with water prior to forming the TNLC cell. The direction of deposition of the gold film used for the analytic and reference surface is indicated by the white and black arrows, respectively. Twist angles of the LC corresponding to each color are indicated by the color chart shown at the right side of the figure. Scale bars represent 1 mm.
