Highly conserved polar interactions between the Ig-like module (Gln13) and the catalytic module (Phe439) of Aa_Cel9A. The Cc_Cel9M structure lacks the Ig-like module and there is a large shift of the N-terminal region of the catalytic module (N-CM) to help stabilize the region of helix 11 (α11). A metal ion is observed in an equivalent position to the conserved polar interaction in Aa_Cel9A. The Ig-like module and catalytic module are shown in green and red, respectively; the metal ion bound to Cc_Cel9M is represented by a small sphere (magenta) and the arrow indicates the shift direction of N-CM of Cc_Cel9M; N, amino-terminus; C, carboxyl-terminus.
