HK-BCG induces tissue-dependent COX-2+ M∅ formation. Results obtained from this and previous studies (7, 20, 21, 23) are summarized. HK-BCG at 0.5 mg or 1 mg doses was given C57Bl/6 mice intranasally or intraperitoneally, respectively. Alveolar M∅ (AM, this study), peritoneal M∅ (PM, this study), and splenic M∅ (SM, 7, 20, 21, 23) were isolated and the % M∅ with NE-associated (active) (—) and NE-dissociated (inactive) forms of COX-2 (—) were determined by immunohistology as indicated in Materials and Methods.
