Whole cell characteristics do not influence time course of the amplificatory shift. Double exponential fits were made. Short OHC labeled trace is averaged C_m response (return to +50 mV from −150 mV) from four short cells (C_lin: 10.3 ± −0.69 pF; τ₀: 0.76; τ₁: 4.09 ms). Long OHC labeled trace is average from five long cells (C_lin: 20.27 ± 0.88; τ₀: 0.76;τ₁: 3.98 ms). Time courses are essentially equal.
