Lysates of plants either treated with water,100 mM sorbitol, 100 mM Glucose or 100 mM sucrose were incubated with peptide arrays containing 1176 peptide substrates (A; selected for their potential to provide broad coverage of cellular phosphorylation) or 1076 peptide substrates (B–D; selected for their importance in mammalian signal transduction) in triplo (three sets of substrates above each other). A. Cluster analysis according to Johnson of the profiles obtained suggest that sucrose and glucose signaling is highly similar and distinct from osmotic control or incubations with water. B.
