Post-acquisition anisomycin treatment blocks memory expression, while anisomycin treatment following a 12 min retrieval trial does not affect performance when tested 1 d later. (A) During reversal, mice in the consolidation (CTX+ exposure) and reconsolidation (CTX− exposure) groups were brought to the same level of behavioral performance immediately prior to anisomycin and vehicle treatment. (B) During a test the next day, the anisomycin-treated consolidation group showed impaired fear memory expression relative to their vehicle treated controls. Anisomycin did not change the reconsolidation group's freezing behavior relative to controls, likely due to extinction in the reconsolidation vehicle group.
