(a) Environmental input is predicted to be interpreted (indirectly) by the N-terminal pseudo-receiver domain of KaiA (N-KaiA, triangular domains), likely through its interactions with other input pathway components. This stimulation of N-KaiA is predicted to trigger a conformational change at its C-terminal KaiC-binding domain (C-KaiA, rectangular domains). (b) Interaction of C-KaiA with KaiC stimulates the autokinase activity of KaiC to result in a hyperphosphorylated KaiC protein.
