The effect of partial portacaval transposition, PPT, upon the weights of the right and left liver lobes which normally have a 30:70 ratio, as shown. Note that the right lobes given the total splanchnic venous inflow underwent hypertrophy in nondiabetic dogs relative to the left lobes which were given vena caval blood. This hypertrophic effect was only slightly less evident in the dogs with alloxan-induced diabetes but was reduced by about one-half in dogs with the diabetes of total pancreatectomy.
