Epifluorescent image of a field of choriocapillaris vessels in a STZ-D Sprague-Dawley rat (top). The vessels contain fluorescently labeled liposomes. The retina would be located behind these vessels, i.e., into the page. The analyzed pathways of erythrocyte flow have been traced on a transparent sheet (center) and then superimposed on the camera image of the choriocapillaris (bottom). The arrow shows the direction of blood flow through the field.
