Effect of chelating agents on bacterial adhesion. Irrigation with HEPES-buffered water supplemented with 1 mM EDTA+EGTA (shaded bars) increased adhesion of S. aureus (A), P. aeruginosa (B), and E. coli (C) to fibroblast GD-25 cells and type I collagen compared with irrigation with HEPES-buffered water without chelating agents (open bars).
