Figure 3

Increased contraction capacity of KSS fibroblasts depends on increased ROS production. A: NHF and KSS fibroblasts of two different donors were incubated for 48 hours in an oxygen-free environment before they were seeded into collagen gels using oxygen-deprived media. The area of the gels was determined at the various depicted time points. Shown is the relative gel area of the equivalents compared with time point 0. Data are means ± SEM of three independent experiments with pooled results for both NHF and KSS equivalents. B: NHF and KSS fibroblasts of two different donors each were seeded into collagen gels in the presence of 10 mmol/L PBN or control medium and the gel area was determined at various time points. Data are means ± SEM of three independent experiments with pooled results for both NHF and KSS equivalents. Statistically significantly different compared with KSS controls, *P < 0.05. Statistically significantly different compared with NHF controls, #P < 0.05.
