Ty1 mRNA and AS RNAs increase with copy number. Northern blot analysis of total RNA from S. paradoxus strains containing 0 (DG1768), 1 (DG2454), and 25 Ty1 elements (DG2451), a S. cerevisiae strain (BY4742; 30 Ty1 elements), and an isogenic spt3 mutant. Samples were hybridized with 32P-labeled probes from GAG (Fig. S1 and Table S2). The levels of Ty1 mRNA and the 0.5–1.0 Kb Ty1AS RNAs were normalized to 18S and 25S rRNA.
