Effect of Hsp27 expression on epithelial barrier function during sublethal injury. Unidirectional lucifer yellow flux, an estimate of permeability, was measured across monolayers grown on semipermeable supports, in EV- or NSsiRNA-treated or Hsp27+ or Hsp27− cells after 30 min of ATP depletion followed by 30-min recovery. Baseline represents cell monolayers not subjected to injury. Measurements were taken in duplicates in 3 filters for each condition in at least 3 separate experiments done on different days.
