Maleate treated ‘juvenile’ mice maintained essentially normal histology (A). Conversely fulminant tubular necrosis with cast formation was observed in the ‘mature’ group subjected to maleate injection (B). Glycerol had a minimal effect on renal histology in ‘juvenile’ mice (C). However, glycerol induced marked tubular necrosis and cast formation when administered to ‘mature’ mice (D).
