Feridex has a blood half-life of 5ā€“6 hours, the majority of which is cleared by the reticuloendothelial system (RES). The remainder accumulates in the bone marrow previous to ischemic insult. Following ischemia-reperfusion (Iā€“R), these iron-laden macrophages are recruited to the stroke region. Using non-invasive MRI, their involvement in the acute and subacute/chronic phase of the inflammatory cascade may be monitored.
