Mean and SE values were obtained by analysis of variance. Lesion size (mm2) exhibited normal distribution without transformation. C and S indicate the presence of BALB/c and STS allele, respectively; n indicates number of mice. The values for Lmr5 were calculated by analysis of covariance from all five time points (from 4 to 8 weeks of infection) as described in Materials and methods; the values for Lmr21 by analysis of variance for week 8.
