Total protein synthesis in neurons infected with VEEV or SINV or replicons with and without IFN-α/β pretreatment. Neurons were either untreated or treated for 24 h with 1,000 IU/ml of IFN-α/β (A and B) and infected with VEEV (A) or SINV (B) or left untreated and infected with SINV or VEEV replicons (C) as described in Materials and Methods. Cells were labeled with 100 μCi/ml of [³⁵S]Met-Cys for 2 h at 12 or 18 h p.i., and then lysates were made and radiolabeled proteins were separated on SDS-PAGE gels and visualized as described in Materials and Methods.
