FIG. 5.

Phosphate release assays. (A) Phosphate release ([Pi], determined by a colorimetric assay) (open circles) and amount of polymer formed ([polymeric AlfA], determined by light scattering) (filled circles) with 8.6 μM AlfA in the presence of 1 mM ATP and 1.8 M KCl. Otherwise, the conditions were the same as those described in the legend to Fig. 1A. The gray line indicates the [Pi] release predicted by our model. (B) Phosphate release and amount of polymer formed with 4.9 μM ParM in the presence of 0.1 M KCl and 1 mM ATP. Otherwise, the conditions were the same as those described above for panel A. (C) Phosphate release and amount of polymer formed with 8.6 μM AlfA in the presence of 50 μM ATP. Otherwise, the conditions were the same as those described above for panel A. (D) Phosphate release and amount of polymer formed with 4.9 μM ParM in the presence of 50 μM ATP. Otherwise, the conditions were the same as those described above for panel B.
