Detection of VZV gC protein in serial sections through an entire paraffin-embedded human vesicle. This biopsy was from a patient with zoster. The serial sections were freed of paraffin and immunolabeled with mouse MAb 233 against gC, then linked with the Alexa 488 fluorophore. All images were taken on a Zeiss LSM 510 confocal microscope at a magnification of 200 X. The origin of the VZV vesicle biopsy was described in a previous publication (Weigle and Grose, 1983).
