TagF is a non-processive enzyme with a proposed single displacement mechanism. The data presented herein are consistent with the following models. A, TagF binds CDP-glycerol and Lipid ϕ to form a ternary complex. The ternary complex dissociates to liberate free enzyme and product following each catalytic event. B, an active site base (B) deprotonates the terminal hydroxyl of Lipid ϕ to facilitate nucleophilic attack on the β-phosphate of CDP-glycerol.
