Transformation of α-linolenic acid by the A. marina fusion protein. The same reactions occur with stearidonic acid (C18.4ω3), which has one additional cis double bond at Δ6 (shown as a dotted bond on the structure of α-linolenate). The allene oxide is unstable and rapidly undergoes non-enzymatic hydrolysis or cyclization.
