A and B are from two different preparations and shown integrated activities of the nerves (∫Phr, phrenic; ∫Hyp, hypoglossal). Note the variability of hypoglossal discharge between preparations and between respiratory cycles in a single preparation. Small, high-frequency oscillations, which are visible on ∫Phr activity, represent the electrocardiogram.
