Cultures were obtained from fungi isolated from soils and ticks sampled at the Louis Calder Center (LCC) and from the American Type Culture Collection (ATCC), where cultures were isolated from an insect (^a Malacosoma americanum) and soils (sampled from Canada and Germany).
