Heat denaturation profiles of recombinant PEPCs. Aliquots of purified PEPCs were incubated at a given temperature for 3 min. The samples were cooled on ice for 3 min, and residual PEPC activity determined at 25 °C. Activities are expressed relative to the corresponding control set at 100% (equivalent to 15, 27, and 25 units/mg of AtPPC3, RcPPC4, and chimeric Class-2 PEPC, respectively). All values represent the means of three different experiments and are reproducible to within ±10% of the mean value.
