Far-UV CD spectra of native PrP(121–231) (solid line), the equilibrium unfolding intermediate (dotted line), and acid denatured PrP(121–231) (dashed line) at 22°C. The spectra of native PrP(121–231) and the intermediate were recorded at pH 4.0 and zero M and 3.5 M urea, respectively. The spectrum of acid denatured PrP(121–231) was measured at pH 2.0 in 3.5 M urea (see Fig. 2). Spectra recorded in the presence of urea could not be recorded below 210 nm due to the high absorbance of the denaturant.
