A score from 0 to 3 was given for each of the two categories. The score for each category was multiplied by a number reflecting the extent of involvement in the specimen (5% to 25% = 1, >25% to 50% = 2, >50% = 3). The final pathology index score was obtained by adding together values for each category, resulting in a total score that could range from 0 to 18.
