oxLDL treatment of apoptotic cells reverses their ability to suppress macrophage proinflammatory cytokine gene expression. A: RAW264.7 cells were incubated with apoptotic Jurkat cells, generated in the absence (AC) or presence (oxLDL-AC) of 25 µg/ml oxLDL for 90 min prior to stimulation with 1 µg/ml LPS for 3 h. B: Human primary macrophages were incubated with apoptotic Jurkat cells, generated in the absence (AC) or presence (oxLDL-AC) of 25 µg/ml oxLDL or with cells treated with oxLDL alone (oxLDL-Jurkat) for 90 min prior to stimulation with 1 µg/ml LPS for 3 h. Cytokine mRNA expression was analyzed by quantitative PCR. *, P < 0.05 versus LPS; #, P < 0.05 versus AC (n = 6).
