Plant mitochondrial UDG activity is independent from the sequence context. Double-stranded oligodeoxyribonucleotides Oua and Onm, [³²P]-labeled at the 5′-end of one of the strands as indicated, were incubated in the absence of extract (lanes 1 and 3) and in the presence of enriched A. thaliana mitochondrial extract (Mito, lanes 2 and 4, 25 µg of protein) for 1 h. Analysis of lesion-specific incision was as in Figure 1.
