Figure 3.

UCE −/− plasma acid hydrolases are rapidly cleared by the mannose receptor. (A) HSA-mannose (200 mg/kg) was injected in the tail vein of ∼3-mo-old wild-type, UCE −/− or GNPTAB −/− mice. The activities of β-galactosidase (β-gal), β-mannosidase (β-mann), and β-hexosaminidase (β-hex) were measured in plasma samples collected before treatment (starting levels) and 4 h after injection. Relative increases (-fold) compared with starting levels (set to 1) are shown on the graph. Wild-type and UCE −/− mice, n = 4; GNPTAB −/− mice, n = 2. **p < 0.001, *p < 0.01. (B) Effect of the mannose receptor blockade on plasma acid hydrolases levels was calculated. Values represent the increases (-fold) in plasma β-gal, β-mann, or β-hex activities observed 4 h after injection of 200 mg/kg HSA-Man over wild-type basal levels (noninjected).
